\nare also performing it tomorrow night?
\nWith this new creation, Bertrand Lesca and Nasi Voutsas take us on a journey through time and absurdity, asking: can you perform a show called Tonight\u2026 every
\nnight?<\/p>\n
This two-voiced monologue, written four-handedly, turns the encounter between artist and spectator into a unique moment that, somehow, repeats itself night after
\nnight. This new work by the performer duo Bertrand Lesca and Nasi Voutsas \u2013 also known as Bert and Nasi \u2013 marks a turning point in their artistic journey. It is the
\nfirst time Bert and Nasi have written a text together: a \u201cmonologue\u201d they share and perform as a duo.<\/p>\n
The project represents a natural evolution following their previous creations THE END and THE BEGINNING (premiered in 2019 and 2023 respectively), as well as their collaboration with director Tim Etchells on L\u2019ADDITION, presented at the 2023 Avignon Festival, and at Here & Now showcase 2024, in Edinburgh.<\/p>\n
Like these earlier works, Tonight is an absurd reflection on the present moment and the theatrical act itself, performed live by the two actors before the audience.
\nHowever, instead of relying on movement and dance as their main scenic tools to express the absurdity of life and performance, the duo chose to write a text \u2014 a
\npiece of automatic writing with surrealist undertones, which they recite together. In doing so, they open a new pathway towards simplicity and abstraction, sustained
\nby the closeness of the audience and by this shared voice, written four-handedly.<\/p>\n
Throughout the performance, Bert and Nasi use and repeat the phrase \u201ctonight,\u201d deliberately blurring the line between the show Tonight and the present moment
\n\u2014 this encounter with the audience that renews itself each evening. It\u2019s a playful way of evoking the act of being here, now, in front of an audience, but also a poetic
\nexpression of the countless possibilities that unfold each time we attend a performance (good or bad), and at the start of any evening. The lightness and comic tone of the text highlight both the position of the spectator \u2014 watching \u2014 and that of the performers \u2014 repeating the same thing night after night, though never quite in the same way. It\u2019s a subtle invitation to upend the expectations of a \u201cnormal\u201d evening, as well as the conventions of theatre itself.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
